One of the largest groups (approx. 27 species), Amazons are beautiful, intelligent and outgoing, but may be stubborn, and can 'outsmart' the owner! They are a medium sized bird (10 - 16"), stocky and square tailed, with the wing, tail and head coloring, as well as the beak and foot color, distinguishing between the subspecies. They can be aggressive in breeding season, and are not the most ideal parrot to have with children. They're most active naturally from dawn to about 10am, and 4pm to dusk, during which times they can be noisey, but are also most amenable then to voice/speech training. They are good singers and talkers, some specimens sounding very human.
